Audubon (1842) provided extensive anatomical description of the head and hyoid of the Ivory-billed, including exquisite drawings of the dissected gut and head. An Ivory-billed hyoid on a juvenile female in the collection of the Bell Museum of Natural History, University of Minnesota (Mus. Zool. Surv. Minn. #4188) has a bony tip that is 7 mm long.
