About the Author(s)

Ian C. T. Nisbet received his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in 1958. He has lived in North America since 1968. He started a study of Common Terns in Massachusetts in 1970, and has continued it to the present day. He has also conducted research on Roseate and other terns. During the same period, he studied the distribution and effects of toxic chemicals in the environment, and played a major role in the regulation of DDT, aldrin/dieldrin, chlordane/heptachlor, and PCBs in the United States. His research interests are in behavioral ecology, age-related biology, senescence, metapopulation dynamics, and ecotoxicology.
