About the Author(s)

Jeannette V. Dumas completed a doctorate in 1996 in ecology from Drexel University in Philadelphia, for her study of rocky intertidal communities in New England, investigating the effect of avian predation on invertebrate prey populations. She also has a master’s degree in marine ecology from the Marine Science Center of Northeastern University in Boston. She highly recommends Bob Allen’s joyful book, The Flame Birds, especially for those interested in Florida’s past. Current address: Laboratory of Dr. E.
