Peter E. Lowther did his Ph.D. studies at the University of Kansas on the breeding biology of House Sparrows (The Birds of North America, No. 12) and has taught at the University of Northern Iowa and at Idaho State University. His present position is as Computer Systems Specialist and Research Associate at The Field Museum. He has been involved with other accounts published by The Birds of North America. Lowther is a member of several national and state ornithological societies and is current editor for the Inland Bird Banding Association. He is married with three daughters. Claudio Celada obtained his B.Sc at the University of Milan, Italy. He then moved to the Institute for Forestry and Nature Research, Leersum, the Netherlands. He is currently at the University of Alberta where he is completing Ph.D. studies on patch occupancy, territory quality and spatial structure in Yellow Warblers. Nedra K. Klein managed the section on Systematics in this account. She received her M.A. from the University of Montana for studies of song repertoires in the American Redstart, and her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, where her dissertation focused on intraspecific phylogenetic relationships and patterns of geographic variation in the Yellow Warbler. Christopher C. Rimmer managed the sections on Migration and Appearance in this account. He received a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Vermont and a M.S. in Ecology and Behavioral Biology from the University of Minnesota, where he studied the molt ecology of Yellow Warblers on the coast of James Bay, Ontario. He has been Director of Research at the Vermont Institute of Natural Science since 1986, conducting long-term population monitoring and ecological studies, with a recent focus on montane forest birds of the Northeast. Current research also includes investigations of the wintering status of Bicknell’s Thrush in the Caribbean Basin, for which he is preparing the account for The Birds of North America.
