About the Author(s)

Chris Elphick has been watching birds most of his life and has been involved in field work in Mexico, California, the Great Basin, Alaska, and England. After earning a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences at the University of East Anglia, England, and a brief sojourn into seabird biology, he switched his attentions to shorebirds. He is currently finishing a Ph.D. on the effects of different methods of managing rice fields on birds. Since 1988, Lee Tibbitts has worked as a biologist with the shorebird research program of the Alaska Biological Science Center and has participated in studies of shorebirds and waterfowl at various locations in Alaska and Mexico. Her current research efforts focus on describing the habitat use patterns of shorebirds in Cook Inlet, AK, and studying the breeding biology of yellowlegs. She is also currently working on a master’s degree at Humboldt State University, CA, where her thesis research is on the foraging behavior of yellowlegs.
