J. Bruce Falls began as a bird watcher and is now Professor (Emeritus) of Zoology at the University of Toronto. In between he obtained B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Toronto, taught Animal Ecology and, with graduate students, studied bird song, small mammal populations, and polymorphism of White-throated Sparrows. He is a fellow of the American Ornithologists Union, the Animal Behavior Society, and the Deutsche Ornithologen-Gesellschaft; Past-President of the Society of Canadian Ornithologists, and Past Chair of the Long Point Bird Observatory. He chaired the management committee for the first Atlas of Breeding Birds of Ontario and the Scientific Programme Committee for the XIX International Ornithological Congress in Ottawa. He is a member of the International Ornithological Committee. In 1990 he received the D. H. Speirs award for contributions to Canadian Ornithology. Jeff Kopachena received a BSc. in 1984 and an MSc. in 1986 from the University of Manitoba. For his Ph.D. thesis at the University of Toronto he studied the breeding biology and behavior of White-throated Sparrows in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario (1992). Between 1991 and 1993, he conducted behavioral and cytogenetic studies of White-throated Sparrows at Queen’s University. In 1994 he joined the faculty at Texas A&M University – Commerce where he is now Head of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Director of the Wildlife and Conservation Science program.  He maintains an active research program in avian ecology and behavior.  Current address:  Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, Texas A&M University, Commerce, TX 75429-3011, USA.
