William Post, curator of birds at the Charleston Museum, has an A.B. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in zoology from North Carolina State University. His main research interest is the mating systems of birds. He has conducted life-history studies of the Yellow-shouldered Blackbird, Boat-tailed Grackle, and Shiny Cowbird. Jon S. Greenlaw, professor (emeritus) of biology at Long Island University in New York, has a B.A. in zoology from the University of Maine and a Ph.D. in ecology and animal behavior from Rutgers University. His research has focused on the evolution of social systems in marshland sparrows, comparative display behavior in emberizine sparrows, and avian community structure in relation to land use in northern Maine.
