About the Author(s)

Raymond Pierotti received his M.Sc. from California State University, Sacramento, in 1976 for his study of male and female parental roles in gulls under varying environmental conditions and his Ph.D. from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1980 for his study of breeding success in gulls in relation to diet, habitat choice, and behavior. He has studied the ecology, population dynamics, and behavior of gulls for 22 years, working on 15 different colonies and in the open ocean in both the Atlantic and Pacific, and has published more than 30 papers on these topics. He is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Ecology and Systematics at the University of Kansas. Thomas Good received his M.Sc. from the University of New Hampshire in 1992 for his study of foraging behavior in Herring Gulls in the Gulf of Maine. He has also studied the interactions between Herring and Great Black-backed gulls on the Isles of Shoals. He is currently a Ph.D. student in systematics and ecology at the University of Kansas.
