About the Author(s)
Alex Middleton was born in Scotland and emigrated to Canada with his family in 1952. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Western Ontario in 1961 and 1962, respectively. In 1962 he began study at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. His Ph.D. dissertation, completed in 1965, focused on the exotic European Goldfinch and set the foundation for his lasting interest in finches. Alex joined the faculty of the University of Guelph in 1966 where he now holds the rank of Professor. He maintains an active graduate program while being heavily committed to undergraduate teaching and faculty development. His contributions to education have been recognized at his University (John Bell Award), provincially (Ontario Confederation of Faculty Associations’ Teaching Award), and nationally (3M Teaching Fellowship). He is an active member of ornithological societies in Australia, Canada, and the United States, and is an elective member of the American Ornithologists’ Union. About The Revisor
Kevin J. McGraw is professor of Evolutionary and Systems Biology in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University. He began his studies of goldfinches while earning a M.S. degree in Zoology at Auburn University, and continued such work while earning a Ph.D. in Behavioral Biology at Cornell University. Though his current work on goldfinches is only collaborative, he continues to study pigmentation in birds ranging from parrots to penguins.
