About the Author(s)

David Parmelee studied under George Sutton at the University of Michigan (M.S. 1952) and the University of Oklahoma (Ph.D. 1957). Professor at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis/St. Paul) from 1970–1992, including Director of its Field Biology Program (1970–1986), and Curator of Birds at the Bell Museum (1986–1992). Much of his research has focused on arctic and antarctic birds, work that continues today. He is the author and illustrator of several books on the ecology and behavior of birds at high latitudes, including Bird Island in Antarctic Waters and Antarctic Birds: ecological and behavioral approach (University of Minnesota Press 1980, 1992). Currently the author is Research Curator of Ornithology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
