Measurements

Male significantly larger than female in all measurements; little overlap (Table 1, Babitt and Frederick 2007, Herring 2008). Adults larger than juveniles in most measurements for first 6-9 months.

Potential cline of decreasing size from North America through Central America to South America (Van Wieringen and Brouwer 1990), but data needed from intermediate populations. White birds in South America noticeably smaller than those from North America (Hancock et al. 1992).
